As contained in Article 3 of the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) shall observe all General Elections held in its Member States. Therefore, SADC is deploying Electoral Observation Mission to observe the 2025 Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the Republic of Seychelles.

SADC deploys the Electoral Observation Mission, headed by the Honourable Themba N. Masuku, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, to the 2025 General Election in the Republic of Malawi

The 45th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in Antananarivo, Republic of Madagascar, has reappointed His Excellency Mr. Elias Magosi, who is a national of Botswana as Executive Secretary of SADC for another four-year term. The decision was confirmed during the closing ceremony of the Summit, where the Heads of State and Government expressed their unanimous confidence in Mr. Magosi’s leadership.

His Excellency Mr. Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, was elected as Chairperson of SADC. He takes over the leadership of the regional bloc from His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, who has steered the Organisation over the past year.

The Ministerial Committee of the Troika of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met on 15th August 2025 in Antananarivo on the margins of the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government. Chaired by Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania and Chairperson of the MCO.
