The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Statistics Committee concluded its meeting in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, with a renewed focus on strengthening regional statistical cooperation and harmonisation. A key outcome of the meeting was a strong call for Member States to urgently sign and ratify the SADC Protocol on Statistics. The Committee recommended that SADC Member State seize the upcoming SADC Heads of State and Government Summit in August 2025 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

The 6th Steering Committee of the ECOFISH Programme was held in Gaborone, Botswana, on May 15. It was chaired by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in the presence of Mr. Catalin Gherman, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Botswana; Mrs. Alice N’Diaye, Director at the General Secretariat of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC); and representatives of the African Regional Economic Communities (RECs).

His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, in his role as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), participated in the 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-11), held in Kampala, Republic of Uganda. The high-level forum convened African leaders under the theme: “Driving job creation and economic growth through sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda.
