His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, and Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation deployed a SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) and appointed H.E. Mr. Enock P. Kavindele, Former Vice President of the Republic of Zambia as the Head of SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), to the 29th September 2023 General Elections of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

19 September 2023, Gaborone, Botswana: In accordance with the five-year electoral cycle of the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Government of Eswatini has invited the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to observe the Kingdom's General Elections which are scheduled for 29th September 2023. In accordance with the Revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021)

The SADC Executive Secretary H.E Elias M. Magosi and Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Botswana and SADC, Her Excellency Ambassador Petra Pereyra today co-chaired the SADC-EUD Quarterly meeting where they reviewed implementation of joint programmes in support of regional cooperation, integration, peace and security; and natural resources management. The SADC Secretariat is on a fundraising drive for the prioritised projects covering '6 strategic priority areas of the RISDP 2020–2030

The SADC Secretariat through its Climate Services Centre is convening the 27th Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-27), which will be preceded by a Climate Experts Meeting aimed at building capacity of Climate Experts from Member States. SARCOF-27 is being supported through the European Union (EU) funded Intra-ACP Climate Services and related Application Programme. Both the Climate Experts Meeting and the SARCOF-27 Forum will be held in Mauritius.

On September 5, 2023, the Republic of Botswana became the 10th Member State of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to sign the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the establishment of the SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations Centre (SHOC). This brings the MOA closer to becoming operational, as two-thirds of 16 Member States are required to sign for its coming into force.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC), in collaboration with the Limpopo Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM), and with the technical support of the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), is scheduled to convene the 10th SADC River Basin Organisations / Shared Watercourse Institutions (RBOs/SWIs) Workshop on 2-4 October 2023. The workshop will be held in a hybrid format, and the physical event will be hosted in Maputo by the Government of Mozambique through the Ministry of Public Works..
