Honourable Mrs Serap Guler, Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office of the Republic of Germany pays courtesy call on SADC Secretariat

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Ms Angele Makombo N’tumba, met with Hon. Mrs Serap Guler, Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office of the Republic of Germany. The Meeting took place on 28th October 2025 at the SADC Secretariat Headquarters in Gaborone, Republic of Botswana.

 The Deputy Executive Secretary extended a warm welcome to Honourable Mrs Guler and thanked the German Government for being a true development partner of SADC. She further extended appreciation for the continued German continental support that is facilitated through initiatives such as Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management/Resilience Initiative Africa, Sustainable Aquatic Foods, and providing technical support on Partnerships for Prevention of Gender-based Violence in Southern Africa. 

She informed Hon. Minister Guler that the Regional Integration Agenda of SADC is guided by the SADC Vision 2050 operationalized through the RISDP (2020-2030), with overarching priorities which are based on a firm foundation of Peace, Security and Democratic Governance, and premised on the following Pillars:

(a)       Industrial Development and Market Integration; 

(b)       Infrastructure Development in Support of Regional Integration;

(c)        Social and Human Capital Development; and 

(d)       Crosscutting Issues, including Gender, Youth, Environment, Climate Change; and Disaster Risk Management.

Hon. Minister Guler reaffirmed the German Government’s commitment to continue its long-standing development partnership with the SADC Secretariat and appreciated the opportunity to exchange views on the regional priorities and areas of mutual interest of both SADC and the Government of Germany. 

The two leaders reiterated their commitment to uphold the spirit of cooperation and mutual desire for enhancing partnership in line with the provisions of the SADC-German Framework Agreement on Development Cooperation signed in November 2023.
