On 10th September 2025, Honourable Themba N. Masuku, Head of the SADC ElectoralObservation Mission (SEOM) to the General Election (Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections) scheduled for the 16th of September 2025 in the Republic of Malawi officially launched the SEOM at a function held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The launch was attended by Ambassadors and High Commissioners, SADC Electoral Observers, the Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and Commissioners of the MEC, Media, International Observer Missions and other electoral and political stakeholders
In his statement, the Head of Mission underscored the need for all stakeholders to understand the mandate of the SEOM which entails ensuring that the Member State holding elections to the relevant provisions of the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021).
The Head was supported by the Director of Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs at the SADC Secretariat, Prof. Kula Ishmael Theletsane, Members of the SADC Troika of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation namely, His Excellency Ambassador Mlondi Dlamini from the Kingdom of Eswatini, and Ms. Zaynab Turuku from the United Republic of Tanzania, and two members of the SADC Electoral Advisory Council, Dr. Leonard Sesa and Advocate Notemba Tjipueja.
The Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, His Majesty King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Eswatini, appointed Right Honourable Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini as the Head of Mission.
