SADC Secretariat will conduct the Annual Regional Conference of Heads of Corrections/Prisons/Penitentiary services, scheduled from 28–30 May 2025, in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. The conference will be held under the theme: “Intelligence Gathering for Early Warning: The Role of Corrections/ Prisons in the SADC Peace and Security Architecture”.
The Conference will dialogue on the pivotal role that prisons/correctional facilities play beyond confinement, as they serve as vital hubs for security intelligence, crime prevention, and early warning systems, and therefore by harnessing actionable intelligence, corrections/prisons can disrupt criminal networks, reduce recidivism, and safeguard public safety across the region. The conference will also deliberate on progress on the implementation of the Corrections/Prisons Strategic Action Plan 2021-2025 by highlighting achievements, gaps, and challenges faced by Member States, as well as engage on emerging trends, to engage in informed discussions and make evidence-based decisions that will drive the sector forward.
Heads of Prisons/Correctional facilities are expected to attend the annual conference to foster collaboration and strategic discussions in the region.
