The Outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Botswana, His Excellency Juan Carlos Arencibia Corrales, met the SADC Executive Secretary, Her Excellency Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on 7th December, 2016 in Gaborone, Botswana to bid her farewell at the end of his mission to Botswana.
H.E. Juan Carlos Arencibia Corrales expressed his gratitude to Dr. Tax for her letter of condolence to the People and the Republic of Cuba on the occasion of the death of Mr. Fidel Castro. He also thanked all African countries that supported his country, which led to the lifting of the embargo against Cuba. He reiterated the support of the Republic of Cuba to the SADC region both through bilateral relations with SADC Member States and through the SADC Secretariat. He further echoed Cuba’s continued commitment towards assisting the SADC region, in among other fields, the medical, education and disaster management. He assured the SADC Executive Secretary of Cuba’s continued support under his successor.
During the meeting, Dr. Tax reiterated her condolences and expressed her gratitude for the cordial relations that continued to exist between Cuba and the SADC region during his tenure as Ambassador and for the support provided to SADC and other African countries during the time of the struggle for independence, and after independence.
The SADC Executive Secretary welcomed the extension of Cuba’s support to other areas and emphasized the need to concretize some of the project concepts that have been under discussion for some time.
His Excellency Juan Carlos Arencibia Corrales’s concludes his mission to Botswana at the end of December 2016.
