SADC Cotton: Revitalizing The Regional Value Chain From Farm To Fashion

The SADC cotton value chain holds significant potential to drive industrialisation, employment and regional trade, yet it continues to face challenges including low productivity, limited value addition, outdated processing infrastructure and a heavy reliance on imports of finished apparel. Strengthening the sector requires coordinated regional action to improve productivity, modernise processing, promote investment in textile and apparel manufacturing, harmonise regulatory frameworks and develop integrated value chains that transform cotton from farm to fashion while creating greater economic value across the region.
