The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, jointly hosted the commemoration of the Southern Africa Heritage Day and the SADC Day 2026 on 19th September 2026. The event that took place in Addis Ababa brought together nationals of SADC Member States through a bring-and-share concept.
The event provided an opportunity for the SADC Member States to showcase their diverse cultural heritage. Some of the key highlights of the event include sharing food amd showcasing different cultures of the SADC Member States.
The event was officially opened by Ambassador Nonceba Losi, Ambassador of South Africa to Ethiopia and the African Union and Ambassador Jevin Pillay Ponisamy, Permanent Representative of SADC to the African Union. In their remarks, the two highlighted the importance of unity, cultural diversity, cooperation, and strengthening the bonds among SADC Member States.
During the event participants from different SADC Member States experienced and appreciated the diverse traditions, cultures, and heritage of the Southern African region.
