The 45th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in Antananarivo, Republic of Madagascar, has reappointed His Excellency Mr. Elias Magosi, who is a national of Botswana as Executive Secretary of SADC for another four-year term.

The decision was confirmed during the closing ceremony of the Summit, where the Heads of State and Government expressed their unanimous confidence in Mr. Magosiโ€™s leadership. He was officially sworn in for his second mandate, marking a continuation of his stewardship of the SADC Secretariat, which he has led since 2021.

Over the past four years, Mr. Magosi has been credited with steering the Secretariat in advancing SADCโ€™s regional integration agenda, strengthening institutional efficiency, and fostering partnerships to accelerate socio-economic development in the region. Member States commended his dedication and reaffirmed their full support, noting that his leadership has been instrumental in positioning SADC to respond effectively to evolving regional and global challenges.

In his acceptance remarks, the Executive Secretary expressed profound gratitude to the Heads of State and Government for the trust bestowed upon him. He assured Member States of his unwavering commitment to continue driving the implementation of priority programmes and initiatives aligned with the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020โ€“2030 and the SADC Vision 2050.

The SADC Secretariat, headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana, is the executive arm of the Community. It plays a critical role in coordinating, facilitating, and monitoring the implementation of SADCโ€™s decisions, policies, and strategies, thereby advancing the objectives of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
