US Ambassador to Botswana presents letters of credence to SADC Secretariat

The Ambassador of the United States of America to Botswana, His Excellency Mr. Earl Robert Miller presented his letters of credence to the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on the 28th of February 2017 in Gaborone, Botswana, in his capacity as the designated Plenipotentiary Representative of the United States of America to SADC.

His Excellency Miller expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present his letters of credence to the Executive Secretariat. He noted that the existing relations between SADC and the United States of America (USA) remain strong, and pledged continued support to the region both at the Secretariat and SADC Member States levels. He commended the SADC for its continued efforts in supporting the Kingdom of Lesotho, highlighting that SADC support is critical for ensuring sustainable peace and security in the Kingdom.

Dr. Tax congratulated the Ambassador for his designation as the Plenipotentiary Representative of the USA to SADC, and assured him of the SADC’s continued cooperation with the USA. She thanked the Government of the USA for its continued support to the region. She noted that the USA remained a significant developmental partner for SADC with keen interest to strengthen the social and economic development of the region. She further commended the US Government for the humanitarian support following the Regional Appeal that was launched in response to the devastating impacts of the El-Niño-induced drought in 2016.

The two parties agreed to continue working together on regional integration issues of mutual interest. Ambassador Miller was accompanied by Mr Daniel Renna, Political-Economic Consular at the American Embassy.
