Symposium on Gender, Peace and Security 29-30 October 2015

Following the meeting to review the indicators and targets of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development; the Gender Unit in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) held a Symposium on Gender; Peace and Security at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre from the 29th -30th October 2015. The Symposium was a build up to the review meeting that focussed on Article 28 of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution that calls upon State Parties to put in place measures to ensure equal representation and participation of both men and women in key decision-making positions in conflict resolution, peace building, peace keeping in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security Resolution and other related Resolutions. The meeting aimed at taking stock of how far Member States are in developing National Action Plans for the implementation of the UNSCR1325.
