SEOM Visits President Guebuza

The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the Republic of Mozambique arrived in the Republic of Mozambique for the observation of the 2014 General Elections.

The SEOM to Mozambique is led by Honourable Maite Nkoana- Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.

Upon arrival of Hon. Nkoana- Mashabane, the mission undertook to pay a courtesy call and farewell on President H.E Armando Guebuza, President of the Republic of Mozambique. Hon. Nkoana- Mashabane was accompanied by Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Honourable Luweyne Landers, Executive Secretary of SADC, Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Tax and members of the Troika of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

H.E Guebuza expressed gratitude to the SEOM delegation and hailed the presence of the SEOM in Mozambique as significant as it was an expression of solidarity to the cause and the governance of the people of Mozambique.

President Guebuza informed the mission that the process and preparations towards the holding of elections was proceeding well. The preparations were on track especially in the recent months as there was cooperation between the FRELIMO and RENAMO Party who in the recent past were involved in confrontations and dispute. The cooperation has been further guaranteed by the signing of cessation of hostilities on 24 August 2014.Hon.

President Guebuza informed SEOM that the FRELIMO Party remains committed to the peace of the country and as such will cooperate with all the stakeholders in maintaining peace in the country. President Guebuza encouraged the mission to work freely and observe the elections and assist in providing an independent reflection of the electoral process as it unfolds in Mozambique.
