SEOM Releases of its Interim Statement for the First Round of the 2015 Presidential Election of the Republic of Seychelles

On 7 December 2015, the Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the 2015 Presidential Election in the Republic of Seychelles, the Honourable, Nyeleti Mondlane, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique released the Mission's Interim Statement, at Avani Hotel in Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles.

The event was attended by Madam Julia Dolly Joiner - former African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs and Head of the African Union Electoral Observation Mission to the Republic of Seychelles. Others International Observation Missions represented included the Electoral Commissions Forum-SADC; the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Commonwealth Observer Group, the Indian Ocean Commission and the British High Commission. It was also attended by members of political parties, representatives of the media, the police, faith-based groups, civil society, including local observers.

The SEOM Head of Mission (HoM) mentioned that since the election was scheduled for the second round on 16, 17 and 18 December, electoral observation was on-going. In this regard, the SEOM Preliminary Statement would be presented on 20 December, 2015.
