SADC Secretariat Commemorates World Day Against Human Trafficking 2015

The SADC Secretariat, in collaboration with the Government of Botswana through the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), commemorated the World Day against Human Trafficking at Kediretswe Primary School grounds in Palapye on Thursday 30th July 2015, under the theme "Human Trafficking is Real: Do Not Become a Victim!"

The objectives of the commemoration were:

  • To raise the public's awareness on human trafficking in Botswana and the SADC region;
  • To stimulate debate and build knowledge on human trafficking in Botswana; and
  • Raise awareness on Botswana's anti-human trafficking law, and related legislative frameworks. 

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya, who is also the Member of Parliament for Palapye, was the Guest of Honour at the commemoration. The Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs director, Mr Jorge Cardoso, also attended the commemoration, together with the Regional Representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Ms Zhuldyz Akisheva; and Mr Jocelin Cornet, the Head of Section for Regional Cooperation with SADC at the European Union Delegation to Botswana and SADC.
