International Women’s Day 2015 was celebrated under the theme, “Empowering Women; Empowering Humanity: Picture it.” This year’s commemorations coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the 15th anniversary of the United Nations Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, delivered a statement of the Executive Secretary of SADC on the occasion of the Commemoration of the International Women's Day that emphasised the need to empower women and attain gender equality in the SADC region.

This was followed by a discussion involving learners from two English Medium Schools in Gaborone, namely: Maru-a-pula School and Westwood International School.

They discussed on the challenges affecting girl and boy-child education in the SADC Region, and how these should be addressed to ensure the attainment of women empowerment and Gender equality.
