The SADC Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, held a meeting with the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mr Mikhail L. Bogdanov, on 23 March 2015 at SADC Headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana. The objective of the meeting was to follow-up on the February 2015 bi-lateral consultations between SADC Secretariat and the government of the Russian Federation, held in Moscow, Russia.
Among other issues, the meeting discussed the way forward in finalizing the revision of the 2003 Memorandum of Understanding between SADC and the Russian Federation as well as how to enhance cooperation on issues of mutual interest between the SADC Region and the government of the Russian Federation.
At this meeting, the Executive Secretary was supported by Dr Angelo Mondlane, Director Policy, Planning and Resource Mobilisation and Mr Jorge Cardoso, Director Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was accompanied by the H.E, Mr. Victor I. Sibilev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Botswana.
