His Excellency Mr. Elias Magosi, Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), will attend the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group Spring Meetings, scheduled for April 13 to 18, 2026, in Washington, D.C., United States of America. In addition to participating in the official sessions, H.E. Magosi will engage in a series of high-level bilateral and multilateral meetings on the margins, designed to advance SADC’s economic priorities and strengthen partnerships with global institutions.
The IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings are among the most influential gatherings in the international financial calendar. Each year, they bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, private sector leaders, civil society organisations, and academics to deliberate on urgent issues shaping the global economy.
The 2026 Spring Meetings will be held under the theme “Building Prosperity Through Policy.” This theme underscores the critical role of sound policy frameworks in driving prosperity, particularly in regions grappling with structural challenges and climate vulnerabilities.
The SADC Executive Secretary’s engagements will focus on strengthening economic cooperation with the regional economic community, which comprises sixteen member states: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Speaking ahead of the meetings, H.E. Magosi underscored the importance of the region’s voice in global economic governance. “The Spring Meetings provide a unique platform for us to engage with global partners on issues that directly impact our region. We must be at the table when decisions are made about debt sustainability, climate finance, and inclusive growth,” he said. He added that, “our bilateral discussions and engagements will focus on unlocking financing for infrastructure and strengthening resilience against economic shocks. These engagements are critical to ensuring that SADC member states can achieve sustainable development and regional integration.”
