SADC Executive Secretary engages with USA’s Assistant Secretary – Bureau for African Affairs

His Excellency Mr. Elias M. Magosi, the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held a virtual meeting with Her Excellency Ms. Molly Phee, the Assistant Secretary of the United States of America’s (USA) Bureau for African Affairs, on 31st January 2024.

The objective of the meeting was to exchange insights regarding peace and security matters within the SADC region inclusive of efforts to de-escalate the situation in eastern DRC.

H.E Magosi highlighted the importance of SAMIDRC asSADC regional response to support the commitment by the DRC government to achieving lasting peace and stability, and ultimately, the creation of an enabling environment for sustainable development and prosperity.

Both sides agreed on the importance of finding a lasting solution for peace in eastern DRC and committed to continue engaging in dialogue to further consolidate ongoing political and diplomatic initiatives and efforts towards peace and security as well as the establishment of humanitarian corridors to facilitate humanitarian assistance in eastern DRC. 

The Ambassador of the United States to Botswana, His Excellency Ambassador Howard A. Van Vranken also attended the meeting.
