SADC Executive Secretary Attends UN High Level Seminar on Gender and Inclusive Mediation Processes in Oslo, Norway

The SADC Secretariat represented by the Executive Secretary participated in the United Nations High-Level Seminar on Gender and Inclusive Mediation Processes in Oslo 24-26 March 2015. The Seminar is organised by the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (UN DPA), Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Crisis Management Institute (CMI) and the Governments of Norway and Finland.

The overall objective of the Seminar is to generate more inclusive processes by promoting women’s effective participation and building inclusive, gender –sensitive mediation capacities at international, regional and national levels. The Seminar is offering practical strategies and tools for more inclusive mediation processes design, as well as options for gender related provisions for the key thematic areas of peace agreements. Inclusivity of women has the potential to increase opportunities  for reaching sustainable agreements , more systematic consultations of and outreach towards women across societies thus it is relevant in the context of SADC cooperation in Diplomacy, Politics , Defence , and Security areas.
