SADC Council of Ministers receives the 2015-2016 report of activities and approves the Annual Corporate Plan for 2016-2017

Following the preparatory meetings that took place since 5th March 2016 in Gaborone, Botswana, the Council of Ministers met today 14 March, 2016 in Gaborone, Botswana to mainly receive progress reports on the implementation of plans for the Financial Year 2015/16; and to review implementation of previous Council and Summit Decisions as well as to consider the focus areas and the budget for 2016/17, particularly on updates on the development of the costed Action Plan for the implementation of the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap and on the implementation of the Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (Revised RISDP) 2015-2020.

Council approved the proposed Annual Corporate Plan for 2016/17 and the Major Focus Areas for the Financial Year and other decisions and measures related to issues as Human Resources, Administration, Environment.

Delivering her opening remarks, the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax gave an overview of the key achievements during 2015/16 financial year and the plan and focus for 2016/17. ‘’The plan and budget focus for financial year 2016/17 continues to be on the implementation of RISDP priorities, Industrialization, and consolidation of peace and security, she said.

The meeting will close on 15 March 2016 and will be followed by a Post-Council Media briefing at the Gaborone International Convention Center.
