SADC Executive Secretary, H.E Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax has commended the Commonwealth Local Government Forum for the work it is currently doing with its Southern African members to build stronger regional networks.
Dr Tax said this when delivering a keynote address at the Commonwealth Local Government Conference 2015, at the Gaborone International Convention Centre, on the topic: Promoting Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Local Government Supporting Economic Development, Growth and Regional Integration.
She said the Forum will give Local Governments an opportunity to share experiences and good practices. “It is necessary to establish a forum that will bring together Ministries and Local Government Associations to engage more strategically with SADC in view of the relevance of SADC policies to the work of local government. As SADC we will welcome further dialogue in this regard, including work around developing strategies to support the implementation of SDG 8. We also look forward to working together with CLGF and its members to implement the recommendations of the event”, .she emphasised.
