The SADC Secretariat is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 SADC Media Awards, the Tertiary Institution Essay Competition and the Secondary School Essay Competition.
In the 2025 Secondary School Essay Competition, learners from the SADC Member States were given a topic on which to write an essay of 1000 words. The topic for the 2025 SADC Essay Competition was; “How can innovation enhance SADC industrialisation and sustainable economic growth and development?”
The three regional winners of the 2025 Secondary School Essay Competition are as follows;
The 3rd prize of US$750 goes to Ms. Noluthando Mlondo from the Republic of South Africa.
The 2nd prize of US$1000 goes to Ms. Angel Gofaone Madome from the Republic of Botswana.
Mr. Crispin Mulokozi Kamugisha from the United Republic of Tanzania is the overall winner of the 2025 SADC Secondary School Essay Competition, and he receives a prize of US$1500.
In the 2025 Tertiary Institution Essay Competition, learners from the SADC Member States were given a topic to write an essay of 4000 words. The topic for the 2025 Tertiary Institution Essay Competition was; “What impact do you believe the SADC Founders’ and Frontline States’ footprints have had on the Southern African Political and Socio-economic discourse to date?”
The three regional winners of the 2025 Tertiary Institution Essay Competition are as follows;
The 3rd prize of US$1000 goes to Ms. Boitumelo Khotlele from the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The 2nd prize of US$1500 goes to Ms. Danai Theodora Kwedza from the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Ms. Ntsoaki Suzan Kholumo from the Kingdom of Lesotho is the overall winner of the 2025 Tertiary Institution Essay Competition and he receives a prize of US$2000.
In the 2025 SADC Media Awards, after a selection by adjudicators at National level, 29 journalists qualified for the regional competition. There are four categories in the SADC Media Awards; Photo Journalism, Print Journalism, Television Journalism and Radio Journalism categories. Each category attracts a prize money of USD 1,000 for the second prize and USD 2,500 for the overall winner in that category.
In the print journalism category, the second prize winner is Mr. Domingos Paulo Diniz Simão from the Republic of Angola. The overall winner in the Print Journalism category is Ms. Veronica Gwaze of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Ms. Kumbukani Barbra Kajumie from the Republic of Malawi, receives second prize in the televisionjournalism category, while Mr. Thabo Harry Rakhomo from the Kingdom of Lesotho is the overall winner in the Television Journalism category.
In the radio journalism category, Mr. Innocent Kumchedwa from the Republic of Malawi, is the second prize winner. The overall winner in the Radio Journalism category is Mr. Launcelot Mpho Lakaje from the Republic of South Africa.
Mr. Roy Nkosi from the Republic of Malawi, receives the second prize, in the Photo journalism category, while Mr. Kudakwashe Hunda from the Republic of Zimbabwe is the overall winner in the photo Journalism category.
