The Prime Minster of the Kingdom of Swaziland launched the Victim Identification Guidelines and Referral Mechanisms for Assisting Victims of Human Trafficking, in Manzini, on November 2, 2015. He underscored the importance of collaboration and coordination at national level and the need to train frontline officers to effectively respond to the crime of trafficking.
The SADC Secretariat and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) provided technical assistance to the Kingdom of Swaziland to develop this tool. The Regional Representative for UNODC, Dr Zhuldyz Akisheva highlighted that Swaziland is “a country where things move”, in recognition of the significant progress the country has made in putting in place institutions and programmes to combat trafficking in persons. Representing the SADC Secretariat was the Director of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs Mr. Jorge Cardoso, who commended the Prime Minister’s Office for spearheading the counter-trafficking efforts in the country.
