SADC and the United Nations sign a Memorandum of Understanding

SADC and the United Nations have signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for cooperation between the parties with a view enhance the effective response to disasters in Southern Africa; improve the capacities of SADC and its Member States in disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance; advocate for the rights of people affected by social conflicts and natural disasters; and create an enabling environment for sustainable development.

The MoU was signed today in Pretoria by SADC Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax and the United nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator H.E. Valerie Amos.
