Regional Representative, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Pays a Courtesy Call on the SADC Executive Secretary

BOTSWANA, 26 June, 2015. The Regional Representative for International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Dr Michael Adekunle Charles, today paid a courtesy call on the SADC Executive secretary, Dr. Stergomena L. Tax. The Executive Secretary welcomed Dr Charles and his delegation and thanked the IRFC for the courtesy call.

The two Parties recognized that while they are already cooperating at operational level, there was a need to enhance cooperation among the two parties at strategic level. In this regard, the two parties resolved to formalize strategic cooperation in areas of common concerns and interest.

The IFRC Regional Representative thanked the SADC Executive Secretary for the opportunity accorded to his delegation. He highlighted that IFRC already has on-going work with SADC Member states and also has a working relationship with SADC Secretariat on health and disaster management issues at programme level. Dr Charles also highlighted the need for IFRC to collaborate with SADC at regional level which would add more value to what they are currently doing with Member States. The Executive Secretary shared with the IRFC delegation, a number of recent developments in the region, in particular, the recently approved Revised SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2015- 2020 and the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Road Map 2015-2063.
