Law enforcement officers in Mozambique recently underwent training on trafficking in persons from 07 to 11 December 2015 in Maputo, Mozambique. The training was officially opened by the Deputy Director – Human Resources in the Ministry of Interior, Ms Ema Cossa Chambo.
The training was guided by the following objectives:
i. To introduce participants to the trafficking in persons and associated concepts;
ii. To discuss Mozambique’s legislative response to trafficking in persons;
iii. To discuss the role of law enforcement officers in responding to trafficking in persons;
iv. To orient the participants to the SADC Regional Trafficking in Persons Data Collection System, and effective practices in data collection and management; and
v. To facilitate in-country coordination and experience sharing on trafficking in persons in the country, as well as experiences from other parts of the SADC region
Facilitators for the training were drawn from SADC Secretariat, Prosecutor General’s Office (Mozambique), Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United States of America Consulate in South Africa.
The training in Mozambique was the second such training that the SADC Secretariat has facilitated since the beginning of the financial year in April 2015 having conducted a similar training in Mahalapye, Botswana, in July 2015.12.10
These training courses are in line with the Regional Political Cooperation (RPC) Programme funded by the European Union under Contribution Agreement 308781 signed in December 2012.
