Ministers of Foreign Affairs approve the campaign strategy for the SADC candidate to the position of Chairperson of AU

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs met on 22 September 2016 in New York, in the margins of the United Nation General Assembly. The objective of the meeting was to consider the Campaign Strategy of the SADC Candidate to the position of Chairperson of the African Union (AU). 

The meeting considered and approved the Campaign Strategy of the SADC candidate for the AU Chairperson and re-affirmed support for the SADC candidate Hon. Dr. Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana. The theme for the Campaign Strategy is Championing a Sustainable Future for Africa and the Strategy outlines the mechanism for rolling out the campaign, among other things.

On the same day, 22 September 2016, the SADC candidate was presented at an event officiated by His Excellency Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, the Vice President of the Republic of Botswana at the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana, Pula House, in New York. This launch was attended by different stakeholders including SADC Member States and other African countries, international organization, as well as the current AU Chairperson, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and the SADC Executive Secretary, H. E. Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax. At this event, the SADC candidate delivered her campaign speech, outlining her vision and campaign strategy.
