Meeting of the Oversight Committee to the Kingdom of Lesotho, held in Gaborone

The inception meeting of the Oversight Committee to the Kingdom of Lesotho was held in October 14, 2016 in Gaborone, Republic of Botswana. The meeting was attended by Senior Officials from the Double Troika Member States which included the Kingdom of Swaziland and the Republics of Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The United Republic of Tanzania and the Kingdom of Swaziland were elected as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Oversight Committee respectively. The Committee deliberated on the Modalities to restructure and for the extension of the tenure of the Oversight Committee, and adopted its Operational Guidelines and Indicative Work Plan for the period November 2016 to July 2017.

The Oversight Committee was established by the Double Troika Summit, to serve as an early warning mechanism, and lend assistance to the implementation of the Constitutional, Security and Public Sector Reforms in the Kingdom of Lesotho. It reports to the Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation, in consultation with the SADC Facilitator to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
