Implement SADC decisions expeditiously - President Khama

The President of the Republic of Botswana and Chairperson of SADC, H.E. Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, has urged SADC Secretariat staff to redouble efforts to speedily implement decisions of the SADC Summit and Council of Ministers to accelerate regional integration and development.

Speaking during his visit to the SADC Secretariat Headquarters in Gaborone this morning, President Khama singled out the importance of expeditiously implementing the SADC Industrialisation Strategy and Roadmap; the revised Regional Indicative Strategic development Plan (RISDP) and the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan RIDMP) as core pillars for sustainable regional development.

President Khama emphasised the need for mid-year and annual reports to gauge the tempo and extent of implementation of the decisions made by Summit and Council. He also stressed the importance of team work.

During his visit, President Khama planted a tree at the Secretariat Headquarters before receiving a briefing from Management

President Khama was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning of the Republic of Botswana and Chairperson of the SADC Council of Ministers, Honourable Kenneth Matambo; and the Dr. Nyamadzabo, Chairperson of the SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials.
