Head of SEOM to the United Republic of Tanzania witnesses opening and closing of polling stations

On 25 October 2015, the Honourable Oldemiro Baloi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation of the Republic of Mozambique and Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the 2015 Presidential, Parliamentary and Councillors' Elections in the Republic of Tanzania witnessed the commencement of voting in the country by observing the opening as well as the closing of polling stations in Dar es Salam.

In line with the provisions of the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections, and specifically as provided for by the country's constitution and electoral regulatory frameworks, polling started at 7:00 Am. The overall electoral environment was peaceful and all the procedures went on well. Voters were already in queues and the various stakeholders administering processes at polling stations conducted themselves professionally. The polls closed at 4:00 Pm, and counting of votes started.
