The Feasibility Study on the navigability of Shire-Zambezi Waterways 14th Joint Technical Committee Meeting held in Gaborone

From 14th to 17th July, 2015, the 14th meeting of the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) was held, at the SADC-Secretariat Headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana. The purpose of the meeting was to:

  • Validate the Navigability and Technical investigations, Transport Economics and Market Surveys, Environmental and Social Impact Analysis, components of the Draft Final Study Report
  • Discuss other issues related to the implementation of the Study
  • Prepare the Ministerial Meeting for the Approval of the Draft Final Study Report

The Meeting was closed on 17th July 2015, and the Ministerial Meeting aiming at approving the Draft Final Study Report is planned to be held in Lilongwe, 06-07 August 2015.

SADC-Secretariat is the implementing and executing agency for the Feasibility Study for the Navigability of Shire-Zambezi Waterway Study Project, whose the main objective of the assignment is to undertake a detailed feasibility study of the reopening of Shire-Zambezi Rivers for navigation, in order to demonstrate its technical, economic, financial, social, and environmental viability and sustainability.
