Exercise NGUIZANI concludes with firm commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the SADC Standby Force

Exercise NGUIZANI also known as a Logistics Exercise 2023 (LOGEX 2023) which was hosted by the Republic of Angola was concluded on 6 October 2023 with a firm commitment towards strengthening the operational capacity of the Southern African Development Community Standby Force (SADC SF).

“The successful conduct of this exercise will further strengthen relations and cooperation for a more dynamic and active SADC in responding to the various political, economic, military and social events that have been taking place at global level”, Inspector General Gouveia João Sá Miranda from the Ministry of National Defence, and Homeland Veterans of the Republic of Angola said at the closing ceremony for the Exercise NGUIZANI.

Inspector General Miranda expressed his country’s gratitude for being entrusted by SADC Member States with the responsibility to host the exercise to strengthen and sustain the logistics system of SADC SF and enable it to act efficiently during deployment in the fulfilment of conflict prevention, peacekeeping and humanitarian aid missions in the region and beyond. 

He encouraged members of the SADC Standby Force to continue forging closer cooperation within the region and with other forces deployed at continental level by the African Union, to mitigate the threats of peace and security that still prevail in the Continent.  

Brigadier General Raymond Ndwandwe, Chief of Staff at the SADC Secretariat commended Member States for committing time and resources to make Exercise NGUIZANI a success. 

The Chief of Staff highlighted that the participation by Member States in the Exercise is a clear demonstration of their unwavering commitment and contribution to regional efforts for sustaining peace and security.

He outlined that through the conduct of Exercise NGUIZANI, the net gains realised will subsequently add towards a heightened conflict resolution capability for the SADC Region and the entire African Continent. 

The exercise, which took place under the theme “Africa for Peace and Prosperity A4P2” was to exercise the Logistics Elements of the SADC Standby Force on the planning and conduct of Integrated Mission Support to Peace Support Operations. 

The exercise was attended by participants from the Republic of Angola, Republic of Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kingdom of Eswatini, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republic of Malawi, Republic of Mozambique, Republic of Namibia, Republic of South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of Zambia and Republic of Zimbabwe.
