Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) pays a Courtesy call on the SADC Executive Secretary

BOTSWANA, 16 July 2015: The President of the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC), who is also Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Honourable Justice Rita Makarau, paid a courtesy call on the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena L. Tax. 

The ECF-SADC President was accompanied by the ECF-SADC Executive Committee Chairperson, who is also Chairperson of Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho, Justice Mahapela Lehohla and the Secretary of the Independent Electoral Commission of Botswana.  

Hon. Justice Makarau introduced the ECF-SADC as an autonomous regional institution of Electoral Commissions from SADC Member States, which was launched in 1998 and has its offices in Gaborone, Botswana.  Amongst its objectives, the ECF strives to strengthen co-operation amongst Electoral Commissions in the SADC Region, as well as promote conditions conducive to credible and transparent elections in SADC. Hon. Makarau highlighted that the purpose of their visit was to introduce their institution to SADC, familiarise themselves with the operations of SADC, and to concretize ways in which the ECF-SADC could cooperate with SADC.

The two Parties resolved to finalize the MoU to be signed by the two Institutions to enable them effectively collaborate in areas of common interest.
