British High Commissioner Courtesy Call to SADC - ES

SADC Executive Secretary Dr Tomaz Augusto Salomão met the newly-appointed British High Commissioner in to Botswana, His Excellency Nick J Pyle for a courtesy call on February 16, 2013 at the SADC Headquarters.

Speaking with the Ambassador, Dr Salomão indicated that SADC was very grateful for the British support to SADC Initiatives and Programmes in particular through Direct Department for International Development.He also briefed Mr Pyle on political developments in the region in particular relating to Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar and Zimbabwe .

In his turn, Ambassador Pyle indicated that the British regarded SADC very highly. Prior to this posting, Ambassador Pyle served in several capacities. He joined the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1981 and spent the last eight years working on Africa and was recently the Deputy Head of Africa Department – Central and Southern.

Prior to that, he was in Nairobi where he spent five years, the last of which was on Secondment to the United Nations Political Office for Somalia, working on a broad range of security, conflict, governance and development issues in Somalia.
