AU and SADC Undertake to Jointly Promote and Implement Agenda 2063

The AU Regional Delegate to Southern Africa, SADC and COMESA, H.E. Dr. Auguste Ngomo, paid a courtesy call on the SADC Secretariat on Monday February 8, 2016, and presented his credentials to the SADC Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax. The two parties discussed matters of mutual interest to the AU and SADC. Dr. Tax congratulated Dr. Ngomo for his appointment and wished him success in his duties as the AU Regional Delegate to Southern Africa, SADC and COMESA.

Dr. Ngomo and Dr. Tax appreciated the important role that the RECs play in spearheading continental integration. At the end of the meeting, they agreed to, among others:

(a) cooperate in promoting continental and regional development and integration agenda, with specific focus on Agenda 2063, as mainstreamed in SADC Regional Integration agenda and priorities.

(b) establish inclusive planning and reporting mechanisms where the REC will effectively implement and report on the implementation of the Agenda 2063; and

(c) jointly work on the Domestication of Continental and Regional instruments.

Dr. Ngomo has recently been deployed to the AU's Southern Region Office in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Southern region is one of the six offices established by the African Union Commission following the Maputo Structure. The other offices are located in Cairo, Egypt; Washington and New York, in America, and two in Europe.
