27TH SOUTHERN AFRICA REGIONAL CLIMATE OUTLOOK FORUM (SARCOF-27)

The 27th Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-27) on 26 September 2023. The Forum is being held under the theme “The Future of Climate, & Water Across Generations of the #SADC region”. The SARCOF is the most prominent User Interface Platform (UIP) on climate information. 

SARCOF hosts engagement task working groups on Disaster Risk Reduction, Agriculture and Food Security, and Water resources, Energy and Private Sector, Health and Communication and Media. The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management of Mauritius Dr. Mohammad Anwar HUSNOO delivered a keynote address and officially opened the Forum. 

Director of Infrastructure at the SADC Secretariat, Ms Mapolao Mokoena welcomed the delegates from the SADC Member States on behalf of the Executive Secretary, H.E Mr. Elias Magosi and thanked the Host country, Mauritius for having facilitated the meeting. She thanked the SADC Cooperating Partner, the European Union for providing grant financing for the Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) programme. The EU remarks were delivered by Ms. Florence Van Houtte who is the Team Leader of the EU Delegation in Mauritius. 

The overall goal of ClimSA is to contribute to the efforts of SADC Member State countries to adapt to climate change and climate variability by providing science-based climate prediction and information services into national and regional planning processes. The objective is to provide timely climate information and support to the Water-Energy-Food security (WEF) nexus.
