The peer review based monitoring and surveillance of the SADC Macroeconomic Convergence (MEC) program was launched by the MEC Peer Review Panel at its first meeting in May 2013 in Maputo. To start the process the Panel agreed that Lesotho and Malawi would be the Pilot countries to be reviewed on a voluntary basis. Angola and Namibia also on a voluntary basis agreed to constitute the Review Team of Macroeconomic experts to undertake the Lesotho and Malawi country Review Mission.
