SADC - EU Signing
On 20 March 2013, the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the European Union (EU) resumed its Political Dialogue, five years after their last Dialogue meeting.
The city of Maputo in Mozambique hosted the meeting at which both sides discussed political, economic and social development in the two communities. Within this Dialogue an important new funding agreement was signed.
The SADC-EU Contributions Agreement starting on 1 April 2013 will provide 20 million Euros of EU funding to SADC for the Regional Economic Integration Support programme. This programme supports SADC´s efforts to reduce poverty through promoting accelerated economic growth and development in the region, and by encouraging deeper levels of regional economic and political cooperation.
