The 1998/99 SADC Annual Report was prepared with inputs from Member States and other relevant institutions. It reviews the economic performance of the region as well as social and economic developments.
The world economy and the state of African economies, prospects for economic growth and the SADC Programme of Action are also analysed. Furthermore the Report gives policy options of the food situation clearly stating that the use of modern technology aimed at boosting production in the agricultural sector needs to be taken on board.
The poor macro-economic performance of region, continued armed conflicts in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, increased external debt burden and the lack of gainful employment are other concerns raised by the Report. It provides an in-depth analysis on issues of common concern to the region as well as provides valuable information to stakeholders and other interested parties.
