The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has received financing from the African Development Fund toward the cost of the Support to the Control of Communicable Diseases Project and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for Feasibility Study on Regional Manufacturing of Medicines and Health Commodities.
The focus of the consultancy is to assess the feasibility of regional production of essential medicines, especially those related to the three communicable diseases namely HIV and AIDS, TB, and Malaria; and to explore the feasibility of Regional/local production of Health commodities for HIV (Condoms), Malaria (Bed nets) and TB (Rapid Diagnostic Tests). The consultancy seeks to also develop modalities for operationalizing Regional Production of Medicines and Health commodities. The consultant will be expected to produce an Inception report, Draft feasibility Report, Proposal for modalities for Production of Pharmaceuticals and related Health Commodities and Validation and consensus building workshop Report delivered over a 365 person day’s period.
SADC Secretariat now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may constitute joint-ventures to enhance their chances of qualification.
Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Rules and Procedures for the use of Consultants” May 2008 Edition, Revised July 2012, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org.
