    Statement on the Final Results of the December 2018 Presidential Election Run-Off in the Republic of Madagascar by the SADC Organ Chairperson, His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia

    The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) welcomes the release of the final results of the 19 December 2018 Presidential Election Run-off in the Republic of Madagascar.

    SADC commends the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar for the timely release of the results, all the Political Parties for their participation in the democratic process and the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) for its management of the election process.

    SADC congratulates Mr. Andry Rajoelina on his election as President of the Republic of Madagascar, and the Malagasy people for their peaceful conduct in the post-election period.

    SADC expresses its continued support to the Republic of Madagascar and to CENI as it prepares for the legislative elections to be held later in 2019.
