The SADC Secretariat, on Tuesday 28 July 2015, met with a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to discuss the existing cooperation between the two organisations, particularly the implementation of a regional programme on "making the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region safer from crime and drugs."
The meeting, held at SADC House in Gaborone, Botswana, was co-chaired by the Director of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs, Mr Jorge Cardoso, and Ms Zhuldyz Akisheva, the Regional Representative for UNODC's Regional Office for Southern Africa. A number of priority areas of cooperation that include money laundering and asset recovery, trafficking in persons, HIV and AIDS, corruption, and gender-based violence were discussed, and key follow-up actions identified.
