The Director of the U.S. Department of State, Office of Southern Africa, Ms. Mirembe Nantongo paid a courtesy call on the SADC Executive Secretary, Her Excellency, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on the 18th November 2016.

The two parties discussed issues of mutual interest and shared updates on a number of areas of collaboration. In particular, they noted that the cooperation between the two parties is continuing to gain momentum and that the United States supported programmes under various US agencies are making steady progress and are achieving the intended goals as envisaged by both parties. This includes programmes undertaken at the SADC Member States level.

Also present were the Ambassador of the United States to Botswana, Mr. Earl Robert Miller and the USAID Country Director in Botswana, Mr. M. Blake Chrystal. USAID/Southern Africa’s regional program manages the Southern Africa Trade Hub which implements programmes aimed at promoting food security. The trade hub contributes to the development of clean energy infrastructure and encourages private sector investments in the region.

The two parties agreed to continue to work together for the good of their constituents.
