During the period August 2007 to July 2008, the SADC Secretariat compiled an Activity Report which gives an account of the main activities undertaken by the SADC Secretariat during the review period. These activities were undertaken in pursuance of the SADC Secretariat mandate in line with the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP).
This document reports on activities undertaken in both areas of programmes implementation and programmes support. Programme implementation includes all priority areas of regional cooperation and integration namely peace and security, trade and economic liberalisation, infrastructure and services, food agriculture and natural resources , social human development, cross cutting issues of gender and development, HIV and AIDS, science and technology.
The Report also gives an account of activities in the programmes support areas of policy and strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, finance and budgeting, development cooperation and resource mobilisation, administration and human resources, corporate communication, ICT support, conferencing services, internal audit and legal issues. These support operations facilitate implementation of programmes and are critical for the SADC Secreriat to fulfill its mandate.
Challenges that are faced during implementation are outlined in this report which is intended to provide a basis for the strategies that constitute the SADC programme of action.
