Ms Emilie Ayaza Mushobekwa is the current Deputy Executive Secretary responsible for Finance and Administration within the SADC Secretariat. She was appointed by the Summit of Heads of State and Government in August 2010, in Windhoek, Namibia.
Prior to this appointment, Ms Mushobekwa was employed by the World Bank since 2003 as PREM Economist (Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit - Africa Region) and regularly Acting Country Manager-Representative of the World Bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She has previously worked for the DRCongo Ministry of Planning as Economist-Analyst in the Department of Macroeconomic Studies, and for the Central Bank of Congo, successively in the Department of Foreign Exchange Operations and the Department of Studies & Research. In the latter Department, she held various positions including that of Deputy Head of Public Finance Service (member of the Government Committee for Budget Preparation, and of the Tariff Commission for Customs and Excises), as well as Head of the Technical Secretariat for the Monetary Policy Consultative Group under the Central Bank Governor.
Born in Bukavu, DR Congo, Ms Mushobekwa is married and the mother of three children. She is graduate in Economics, majoring in Monetary and International Economy from the University of Kinshasa, and has a qualification in Public Finance from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, France. She also holds a Certificate of Intermediate English from George Washington University, Washington, DC. She participated in several technical works, publications, projects, programs and high level meetings in the field of Economic Management, Public Sector, Governance, Anticorruption and Poverty Reduction.
