2. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has received a grant from the African Development Bank (ADB) in various currencies equivalent to UA 20.00 million towards the cost of the Support to the Control of Communicable Diseases Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this grant to eligible payments under the contract for consultancy services for “Identification and Classification of African Traditional Medicines used in Malaria, HIV and Aids, AND TB”
The SADC Secretariat wishes to engage a consultant to identify Medicinal Plants used in the treatment of Malaria, HIV and AIDS, TB and Malaria in the SADC Region and propose a strategic framework to guide the Member States to support and promote its use to compliment the African Traditional Medicine and other contemporary medicine practices and therapies. The consultant will be expected to undertake the following: (i) Examine the extent to which Traditional Medicines are contributing to the Prevention and Control of Malaria, TB, and HIV and AIDS; (ii) Collect, Identify Classify and store Herbal Medicines used to prevent and treat Malaria, TB, and HIV and AIDS. (iii) Identify best practices and barriers for collaboration between traditional and traditional and contemporary medical practices (iv) Assess the Structures and Policy Frameworks on African Traditional Medicine that exist in Member States; and (v) Propose Guidelines to enhance capacity and institutionalization of African Traditional Medicine in the Member States SADC Region.
3. SADC now invites qualified Individuals to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested Individuals must provide a statement of capability and experience indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (Qualifications, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, Curriculum Vitae and demonstration of appropriate skills).
4. An Individual Consultant will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the African Development Bank’s Rules and Procedures for the Use of Consultants.
