As Member States of SADC become more Regionally Integrated, disparities in their national tax systems may cause inequities that contradict SADC’s objectives of economic growth and complementarity between national and regional strategies. To correct this situation, SADC passed its Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Taxation and Related Matters on 8th August 2002.

One such non-governmental organisation is the Association of SADC Chambers of Commerce and Industry – a collective of national business organisations within Southern Africa committed to free enterprise, regional cooperation, and promoting mutual interests with SADC.

The Member States of the Southern African Development Community on the 8th August 2002 signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation of tax related matters defining the steps to be taken to co-operate in taxation matters and to harmonise tax regimes in Member States.
