Diagnostic Sub Committee

The SADC Sub-committee on veterinary diagnostics is one of the four Sub-committees and it was created in Tanzania. It is composed of representatives from Central Veterinary Laboratories (CVL) of the SADC Member States. The main purpose of the Sub-committee is to share information and harmonize procedures and action in the field of animal diseases diagnostic. Accurate and timely laboratory diagnosis is key to disease control and improved livestock production.

Since its creation, the Sub-committee has made concerted efforts to harmonise, laboratory diagnostic techniques, capacity building, and implementation of quality assurance systems at regional level. The Sub-committee holds meetings annually in one of the Member States. The last three meetings were held in Zanzibar in March 2004, in Maputo, Mozambique in April 2005 and Livingstone, Zambia in April 2006. Malawi will host the next meeting in 2007. The Diagnostic Sub-committee is currently chaired by Dr. Pious Vengesai Makaya.
