The Livestock Technical Committee
The Livestock Technical Committee (LTC) comprises the Directors of Livestock and Veterinary Services of the SADC Member States (MS). Meetings are held annually during the first weeks of April/May to discuss issues of regional cooperation and integration in the livestock sector. The LTC, in turn, is guided by its four subcommittees which are:
- Epidemiology and Informatics
- Animal Production, Veld, Marketing and Genetic Resources
- Veterinary Laboratory and Diagnostics
- Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety
The LTC steers the Livestock Sector Unit of the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) Directorate towards livestock development needs of the MS. The FANR directorate has the responsibility of coordinating projects and programmes to cater for MS needs. Recommendations of the LTC are submitted to the Integrated Committee of Ministers (ICM) and/or the Council for consideration.
The recommendations of the LTC are, therefore, incorporated in the FANR Directorate’s activities in the context of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) framework for the 15 year, 5year and annual planning horizons.
